​​​​Seungdong Yang, artistic director of Pieta, trained in theatre and
works to extend what a performance can be. He looks for forms in
which maker and audience are not simply divided into the one who
speaks and the one who listens.

To do this he treats the audience and the space as his material.
The audience becomes the subject of the performance through its
interaction with the space, and the message is carried by the scenes
that arise out of that process. Each work asks again where the
ideal meeting point between a performance and its audience lies,
and how to reach it.
 

피에타의 예술감독 겸 연출가인 양승동은 연극을 전공했으며 공연 예술의 개념을 확장하기 위한 다양한 시도를 지속적으로 실험하고 있다.  창작자와 관객이 단순히 화자와 청자로 나뉘지 않는 공연 방식을 탐구한다. 이를 위해 관객과 공간을 적극적으로 활용하여 관객이 공간과 상호작용을 통해 공연의 주체가 되고, 이 과정에서 생성되는 장면을 통해 메시지를 전달하는 데 중점을 두고 있다.공연과 관객 간의 상호작용에서 각자의 역할과 이상적인 접점, 방법을 고민하며 창작 활동을 진행한다.
