We live more connected to one another than at any point in humanhistory, and yet a great many people live feeling isolated. Throughthe recent years in which contact between people was cut off,loneliness became not an occasional state but a daily one.In 2023, as we entered a full return to ordinary life after threeyears of pandemic, citizens crossed the city centre carrying ahuman-sized puppet, WHO, together to a public square. In workingtogether to move it they recovered a sense of community, and in theirexchange with WHO they passed from being the one who offers comfort tothe one who receives it. Through that reversal the work offers a smallcomfort to the loneliness each person carries within.
Seventy audience members, in seven groups of ten, put on wirelessearphones and walked one kilometre across the city. In their ears apuppet's voice told them where it was, told them its life story, andtold them what to do next. Each puppet was heavy enough that fivepeople had to carry it together. On the way to the square, passers-byjoined without knowing what it was, until there were several hundred.At the square the participants took out their earphones and took amicrophone. The voice that had been whispering separately into seventyears now sounded through one mouth across the whole plaza, as eachperson spoke about their own day. They ended holding hands, circlingthe puppets.

우리는 인류 역사상 가장 서로에게 연결되어 살고 있지만 그럼에도 불구하고 너무나도 많은 사람들이 고립감을 느끼며 살아간다. 사람과 사람사이의 교류가 끊긴 최근 몇 년간 인류에게 외로움은 가끔이 아닌 일상이 되었다. 3년간의 팬데믹 기간을 지나 본격적인 일상회복 단계에 접어든 2023년, 시민들은 도심을 가로지르며 사람 크기의 인형(WHO)을 협력하여 광장으로 옮기는 과정을 통해 공동체성을 회복하고 인형(WHO)과의 교류를 통해 위로를 전하는 주체에서 객체로 전환되는 경험을 제공하며 이를 통해 내제되어 있는 개인의 외로움에 작은 위로를 전달한다.
70명의 관객이 열 명씩 일곱 갈래로 나뉘어 무선 이어폰을 끼고 도시를 가로질러 1km를 걸었다. 이어폰 속에서 인형의 목소리가 자신이 어디 있는지 알려주고, 살아온 이야기를 들려주고, 다음에 할 일을 지시했다. 인형은 다섯 명이 함께 들어야 겨우 옮길 수 있는 무게였다. 광장으로 향하는 동안 거리의 행인들이 영문도 모른 채 따라붙어 수백 명이 되었다. 광장에서 사람들은 이어폰을 빼고 마이크를 잡았다. 일흔 개의 귀에 각각 속삭이던 목소리가 한 사람의 입을 통해 광장 전체에 울렸다. 저마다 오늘 자신에게 있었던 일을 말했다. 마지막으로 모두가 손을 잡고, 인형을 가운데 둔 채 광장을 돌았다.
